Looking forward to a great semester!

The reading today made me realize how many different aspects and techniques have to come together to produce a successful piece. I felt the mentionings of plot were general knowledge, but found the ideas of temporal order and parellelism intriguing. Reading about temporal order made me think about the repeated scenes in the movie "Groundhog Day" and especially the line "watch that first step, it's a doozy!". Parallelism made me consider the strong similarities between John Snow and Khaleesi. They both are trying to unite armies and houses to fight for the greater good and bettering of the world, aspiring to become the change they want. Cause and effect is prevalent in many movies and television shows, such as Talladega Nights when Bobby chooses to become a racecar driver because he heard his dad say," If you aint first, you're last". Using citizen Kane as the example for many of the ideas presented was hard for me to connect with because I have not seen the movie, but I do see how everything they used made logical sense in the reading.

After reading the article, I found out narrative is so important for a story. From different narrative form, the writer is able to tell the story in different ways and illustrate perspectives. Before I saw the article, I have known some films that are good at story telling. Like the famous work from Nolan, "Memento". When I first saw this film I was so shocked by its unique style of telling story. It is not even simple flashback, but used all narrative methods. The complicated way to tell the story make the movie itself became more attractive and mysterious.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I noticed from the example of the article is to let audience know more than the picture shows. Like almost in every movie, we can all infer some deep background of the characters by listening to there conversation or the narratage. This is a perfect way to save the pages of the story. Director do not have to arrange every scene to tell all the story. Further more, this makes the film real.
